This idea appears to me to have undermined the work of Christ on the cross on all aspsects of life. It does seem to me that the book suggests a believer's change in thinking to be victorious..... (NOTE: I will read the second book "The Bondage Breaker" to gain a better perspective on where the author is coming from.)Having said that, I would suggest mature believers to have a look at this book. There are some very good suggestions or reminders on who Christians truly are (identity in Christ).But, I would refrain from recommending this to new believers, for its almost unhealthy obsession with demonic activities instead of emphasising the weight of the Gospel.

For years I have searched for answers and understanding through numerous Christian books. More knowledge but little fruit in my life and I never understood why. This book has blown me away. Every chapter brought clarity and understanding to who I am in Christ and has equipped me to actually grow in my faith. I have been a believer for many years but it turns out, I've had a rather faulty belief system and this book, through his explanation of many, many scripture references, has opened a whole new view of who God is and who I am. For the first time, I do not feel like I need to find another book but I am excited to LIVE for Christ. If there is one book needed for your Christian faith-in addition to the bible-this is the book. I cannot give this book enough praise for its impact.

Excellent Book! I have been in a season of fear and worry after being a Christian for 7 years, and Victory Over Darkness was recommended by so many other fellow believers to help me figure out what is going on. This book is like a counseling-type read: sometimes it was painful to read as God opened my eyes to areas of my life that are not in line with His will, but afterward I always had so much healing occur. Also, Anderson gives many practical tools to use for every day life as we struggle through stuff in this broken world. I wish I would have read this when I first became a Christian! Also, Bondage Breaker is the second book to read after this and I just began reading this one--I know it will have a huge impact just like this book has had.Just an FYI: the first few chapters are dense, but so necessary to read. After those chapters, the writing is much more engaging and "easy" to read.

When I started reading this book I would estimate I would have to battle anxiety and fear at least one a week. My biggest fear was the fear of the unknown. Dr Anderson helped point out the obvious. That we are loved by a gracious good God. By His grace, I have become content with who I am in Him at the moment. And trusting Him for what He has planned for me.

About the Author
Julien Lesgourgues currently works at EPFL in Lausanne and in the Theory Division at CERN, Switzerland. His research is focused on cosmology and on the theoretical interpretation of cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure astrophysical data.

Gianpiero Mangano is a Senior Researcher in Theoretical Physics at INFN, Italy. His research interests cover several areas in cosmology, such as primordial nucleosynthesis and the physics of neutrinos in the early Universe, and cosmological aspects of noncommutative spacetimes at the Planck scale.

Gennaro Miele is Associate Professor in Theoretical Physics at the University of Naples 'Federico II', Italy. His main research interest concerns cosmology, where he has been working in primordial nucleosynthesis and neutrino cosmology.

I have purchased several copies of this book and after putting it on my bookshelf people have noticed it and asked to borrow it. I have yet to receive a lent copy back. My friends enjoy the book so much that they just pay me for the book and ask me to order a new one for myself. I currently have another copy on order and I will not lend it out.As Usual, Jack Kornfield has brought the essence of the Buddha's teachings to life, clearly and passionately sharing the wisdom of Buddhist teachings. I have purchased many of Kornfields books and this one in my opinion, is by far the best. If you are looking for kind, compassionate and wise advice for difficult times, times of spiritual crises or a new way to approach lifes challenges, this book is for you.

We use it weekly in my meditation group. Someone who feels like it, picks up the book, and opens to one of the many wonderful excerpts written by Buddhist teachers and other spiritual teachers/poets/mystics, etc., s/he reads the page, then we might re-read, & discuss the implications (of any) with out meditation/mindfulness practices since the week before. We love this little wise book, & many of us have bought our own copies to have at home on our night tables, so we can read & appreciate the wisdom found within. So often, what I open the book to,randomly seems to be exactly what I should be thinking about/paying attention to, so this book's a gift, & well worth the investment for anyone on the path to more wisdom, clarity & mindfulness.

As a frequent library patron, I initially borrowed this book from my local library. I loved it so much that I felt I needed to own a copy of my own. Jack Kornfield introduced me to Buddhism several years ago and I now own several of his books. This book includes excerpts from books, sometimes only a page or less, authored by current, respected teachers of Buddhism. As a reader of books on Buddhism, most of their names were familiar to me but not all. I view these cited books and their authors as Kornfield's best-of-the-best list. In the future, with this book in hand, I feel that Jack Kornfield will be my own personal guide to future Buddhist reading.

I like that each entry is short and meaningful. I'm reading a page every morning in the quiet and I've found it to be comforting and thought provoking. I may not totally connect with every passage, but it still gives me the opportunity to quiet my mind and ponder. Though I am not currently practicing meditation, this book is giving me daily inspiration to seek the silence within myself where I can achieve the light.

I savor this book, and it sits near the meditation cushion in my home. This is my current daily reader. What I enjoy about the book is the wide breadth of buddhist teachers whose wisdom appear in the pages of this book. There are few people more qualified than Jack Kornfield to edit a book like this. Due to a hectic life in this modern world, and living a 90 minute drive from Spirit Rock, I am limited in the amount of face to face time I get with live buddhist teachers. This book does me the service of bringing to my very living room wise teachers from all corners of the globe sharing some of the best of what the dharma has to offer.

I have encountered this book at one of the yoga classes i was in.I think it is a must book. You can read it from start to end. From end to start or just open a random chapter and dive into it.

Lots of anecdotes and quotes by beloved teacher Jack Kornfield. His style and his choices are, as always, thoughtful and lovingly presented. A great read - but savor it.

The short exerts provide simple, but important advice for those who seek self improvement. Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion. The advice should prove useful to anyone, regardless of your spiritual background.
